Bishop Dr. Pius Tembu began his ministry journey as a youth in Bungoma as the pioneer pastor of KAG Ekitale. He was teaching in primary schools before his pastoral career. Bishop Pius Tembu got saved in 1975 when God called him to serve in 1977. He later went through the Bible School Training and continued teaching at the East African School of Theology.
Bishop Dr. Pius Tembu did his B.A in Bible and Theology and B.A in Christian Education in 1979-1983. He began lecturing at E.A.S.T Bible School and progressed on to serve as the dean of students for many years. He later did his Master’s program in divinity (MDiv, Education major ) in 1988-1990 from Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology now AIU. He was still lecturing at E.A.S.T Bible School when he was called to join K.A.G Buruburu in 1992 as the senior pastor.
Bishop Dr. Tembu has been a full-time church minister at East Assembly Church since 1992 for the past 32 years. He served as the Outering section presbyter from 1993-2014 when he retired. He also served as the assistant superintendent for KAG Nairobi District from 1993-1994 after which he transitioned to being the KAG Nairobi district superintendent from 1994-2014 when he retired at 65 years. He also served as the KAG National General Secretary from 2000-2014 a position he also retired from in 2014.
His main ministry is pastoral, preparing leaders and having mentored many ministers of the Gospel some of whom now are Bishops both within and out of the country. He is a gifted teacher of the word explaining the Holy Scriptures with great depth and articulation of the Gospel of truth.
Bishop Dr.Tembu has also served in many capacities as a Board member of the Bible Society of Kenya. He has also served as a Board member of several secondary schools. He has been the education director at the Kenya Assemblies of God and the council chair ( K.A.G E.A.S.T University )when the Bible School Obtained the charter in 2016.
Bishop Tembu obtained his doctorate in Theological Studies from the Pan African Theological Seminary( PATHS) in Lome Togo, accredited under the West Africa Advanced School of Theology from 2005-2010. He mentors MA students with Global University and is a member of the APTEA Community(Association for Pentecostal Theological Education in Africa.)He is a student of theology.
Bishop Dr.Tembu is happily married to Rev.Jane Tembu and together have been blessed with 7 adult children who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior. In his free time, Bishop Dr.Tembu enjoys traveling and making friends.
